SELANGOR FA (FAS) deputy president Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad has denied any direct negotiation with Super League club PKNS over buying out midfielder Nazmi Faiz Mansor's contract.
Nazmi, who had a stint with Portuguese club Beira-Mar for six months in 2012, is believed to be unhappy at PKNS and wants to join Selangor. However, his three-year contract with PKNS will only end at the completion of next season.
Selangor can only buy out his contract if PKNS agree to release him during the ongoing transfer window. It is learnt that it will cost Selangor about RM300,000 to sign Nazmi.
FAS, however, has been in contact with a third party to get Nazmi.
"We have not written officially to PKNS. If everything goes well, he could become a Selangor player soon. There is a possibility he will join us before the transfer window for local players ends on April 19. However, if things don't work out, we can always get him next season," said Mokhtar yesterday.
"Nazmi is a player with quality and we need his services as replacement to our midfielder K. Gurusamy, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a recent league match. He will be out for six months."
But PKNS, who are seventh in the league with 13 points, could be hesitant to release Nazmi as the former youth international has been pivotal to the club's campaign this season.
PKNS coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan said Nazmi has not indicated his intention to leave the club.
"Nazmi is an important player to PKNS. If he leaves, the club will have a void in midfield. He is doing fine in training and in matches. I have advised him to remain with PKNS until next year," said Wan Jamak.
Selangor will also beef up their squad by signing Brazilians Cleber Barbosa Viana, 28, and Evaldo Silva Dos Santos, 31, as replacements for the under-performing Junior Aparecido and Australia's Steve Pantelidis.
Mokhtar said: "Viana and Dos Santos have arrived in Kuala Lumpur and we have offered a two-year contract to each of them. However, it is subject to a medical. We are also awaiting their International Transfer Certificates (ITCs) from their former club FC Caxias of Brazil.
"Junior and Pantelidis will be retained for the AFC Cup. However, we may make changes during the competition's transfer window after the completion of the group stage.
"Junior is having emotional problems while Pantelidis is doing well but we want a better player in the centre-back position," Mokhtar added.
Viana is a striker-cum-winger while Dos Santos is a utility defender. They could feature for Selangor on Saturday against Perak.
Meanwhile, Bojan Hodak has been appointed as caretaker coach of Darul Ta'zim, taking over from Spaniard Cesar Ferrando Jimenez, who has been rested following the team's poor performance.
Hodak, who was the manager, has been coaching the team for the last two days. Johor FA president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim will make the announcement soon.
Darul Ta'zim are sixth in the league with 16 points after the completion of the first round.
"The players do not understand Jimenez as he is not fluent in English. This is the reason behind Darul Ta'zim's poor form," said a source yesterday.
