Nazmi Faiz Mansor, young Malaysian average of 17 years who is considered one of the greatest hopes of Asian football, has signed on with his father, contract with the Beira-Mar valid for the next three seasons – by June 2015. Nazmi met last week a trial period with the squad aurinegro taking Mitchell pleased to Ulysses, who saw in it potential for a successful career in Europe. Nazmi Faiz Mansur: signs contract with Portuguese top flight club | I ...

Posted: 22 May 2012 09:41 AM PDT

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Mohd Nazmi Faiz has successfully secured a three-year contract with Portuguese top flight football club Beira-Mar yesterday.
The 17-year-old Nazmi, who underwent a three-day trial in Portugal, has passed his test with flying colours and landed himself a three-year deal until 2015-16 season.
His agent Marco Guimaraes confirmed the deal and the Malaysian is expected to start with his new club ahead of the new season on July 3.
National Under-23 coach Ong Kim Swee said Nazmi's success is a new era for Malaysian football.
"This is the beginning for better things to come for our playes. I am proud of Nazmi's achievement and there are several of our young players being targeted for trials in Portugal," said Kim Swee from Slovakia yesterday.
He said the Harimau Muda project had proved to be a success with the young players being sent for trials with Vion FC in Slovakia earlier this year.
"The stints in Slovakia are beginning to bear fruit. Nazmi's club is not a normal Division One club but a huge and significant one in Portugal.
"Portugal are fifth in the FIFA ranking and this is great opportunity for our boys to prove their worth to the world," said Kim Swee.
Nazmi was a last minute inclusion to the national Under-23 squad prior to the SEA Games in Jakarta last November.
He was roped in from the Harimau Muda B (Under-19) squad under Ismail Ibrahim due to several injuries to key midfielders in the Under-23 squad. Nazmi played a pivotal role as Malaysia went on to defend the gold medal.
It is learnt the Portuguese club were impressed after seeing videos of Nazmi in action for Malaysia during the Asian Zone Olympic final round qualifiers earlier this year.

Portugal beckons for Nazmi Faiz Mansor | aXross The Line

Posted: 21 May 2012 12:40 PM PDT

Nazmi Faiz Mansor (left) will be playing in the Portuguese top leagueHis ability to create something out of nothing on the pitch has not gone unnoticed, and his latest achievement will definitely give Malaysia's football fans something to cheer about.

Nazmi Faiz Mansor has successfully earned himself a professional contract with Portuguese top flight side, SC Beira-Mar after undergoing a week-long trial.

The 17 year-old prodigy who plies his trade with Harimau Muda in the Great Eastern Yeo's S-League will sign professional forms with the Portuguese side after signing a pre-contract on Monday. It was reported that Nazmi will start his career as a foreign player playing in a top European side in August, once he turns 18.

The Harimau Muda team is currently on a training tour in Slovakia and they will head to Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday. When contacted, head Coach Ong Kim Swee shared how other young players can benefit from Nazmi's breakthrough.

"Let's just forget about following the European team's style in developing footballers. Instead, we should stick to our own Malaysia style," Ong said in a telephone interview from Slovakia. Ong Kim Swee, Harimau Muda's head coach

"With me, I have a team of great coaching staff who provide very good education for my players, and to teach them how to progress as footballers. The nutritionist, the psychologist, the physiotherapist all play equally important roles in the players' development.

"It is true that our players mature slower as compared to those in Europe and we must be realistic. There is no point following the model of Barcelona or Manchester United because we cannot keep up with them," Ong added.

On Nazmi's success, Ong isn't a tad bit surprised and he believes that Nazmi is indeed a special talent after observing the player since he was 14, when he was with coach Aminuddin Hussin in the under-14 squad while Ong coached the under-17 squad at the Bukit Jalil Sports School.

"Aminuddin did a very good job in the boy's progression and as our two teams trained side by side each other at the school, I had the opportunity to observe how Nazmi did during his early days.

"I told myself then, that if I ever had an opportunity to take him with me, I won't hesitate. Seven months ago when I brought him to the South East Asian Games in Indonesia, everyone was shocked. The bigger shock came when I fielded him right from the start against Thailand, and that was when everyone knew about this boy," Ong said.

Ong is absolutely delighted with the progress made by Nazmi, and he believes that this will be the stepping stone for other young players to step up and follow in Nazmi's footsteps.

"Nazmi works hard and he wants to be there," Ong told aXrosstheline.com

"As a National Under-23 coach, I would love to see more players progressing like how Nazmi did. When there is progression, there will be an opening for someone else to come in and thus the process can be repeated."

On whether Nazmi will be blown away by his current status, Ong shared that it is his duty to lead Nazmi through the right path.

"Boys will be boys and my job will be to provide Nazmi with the necessary guidance and education that he needs. His parents will also play a vital role in his development as a professional footballer.

"But we have an ongoing assignment (AFC Under-22 Qualifiers) which we have to do well in and we must stay focused to achieve that goal – and that applies to Nazmi as well," said the strict disciplinarian.

The Malaysia Under-22 side will head to Hungary on Tuesday where they will play three friendly games, and Ong wants Nazmi has to be "back to business as usual" when they play their first game on May 23.

SENSATION: A YouTube clip has earned Nazmi Faiz Mansor a trial with a Portuguese club. The teen midfielder speaks to Ajitpal Singh

Nazmi Faiz Mansor going through the paces at the Beira-Mar training ground on Wednesday in Aveiro, Portugal.
1 / 1
IT was a dream come true for me when I was informed by my coach Ong Kim Swee that a Portuguese club were interested in having me for a short trial.
I took time to digest what Kim Swee had said as I thought he was joking. But I realised he was not.
It is every footballer's dream to play in Europe and honestly, I couldn't wait to get started, then.
We met Football Management International director of football, Marco Guimaraes, and he furnished me with the details of the then impending trial with Sport Clube Beira-Mar, a Portuguese Division One club.
I never expected this opportunity to come so quick for a 17-year-old like me. I have to thank all involved and God, of course.
I had to do research on the club's background as frankly, I knew little about them as Portuguese football has always been about either Porto or Benfica.
And after reading up on them in the Internet, I realised that the Aveiro-based side were a huge team.
I am a huge fan of Eusebio and I couldn't believe it that he once played for Beira-Mar, the club where I hope to make the grade.
Everyone in Malaysia was excited about the news and I must thank the FA of Malaysia for sponsoring my father's (Mansor Mustafa) for the trip as I needed him to be around with me.
A day before my flight, Kim Swee and my Young Tigers teammates bade me farewell. They told me to be confident during the trial as this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
It was Sunday, as my dad and I arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to board the flight to Porto, Portugal. It was a long and tiring journey and I also felt nervous as I drew closer to my destination.
We transited in Paris for three hours and I used the time to read up about Portugal football.
We arrived on Monday in Porto before continuing our journey to Aveiro by car. I enjoyed the scenic view of the port city during the short drive. The first thing I noticed was the palm trees along the coastline.
We arrived at our hotel, which was five minutes away from the Beira-Mar training ground before checking-in.
We did not do much upon arrival as we needed to settle down and meet officials of Biera-Mar. I, however, jogged and juggled the ball in the evening before taking a nap to recover from the jet-lag.
On the next day, I did a light workout before having breakfast. After that, we took a short trip around the city.
I basically rested and did not think much about the trial as I did not want to put myself in any pressure that would affect my performance.
The big day arrived (Wednesday) and I had to report for training in the evening. I met the first team players and their coach, Ulisses Morais.
They were so nice and helpful. I spoke to Morais and he told me to play at my best ability. According to the first team players, everyone here was looking forward to meeting and watching me play.
I was like the main attraction here. I felt like a star, however, my focus was on the trial as I needed to impress them.
I trained with the first team along with those, also on trials, which lasted for almost 90 minutes. I had a good outing but felt I could have done much more on the pitch.
I adapted well to the new environment in Portugal. It isn't much of problem and I felt good after my first workout with the team.
Most of the players are physically bigger but that's no excuse. I'm confident of making my mark and will give it my best shot during my short stay here.
It was a different experience in terms of training as the drills here are so much different than I had ever experienced before.
On Thursday, I played my first match for Beira-Mar against a Division Two club. It was a 60-minute game but I did not do too well here, though, I managed to blend in nicely with them. Only the goalkeeper from the first team played while others comprised those on trial and members of the youth team.
I felt slightly nervous, probably because it was my first ever experience with a European team but I was not deterred. I was determined to make a huge impression on the next day.
It was my last chance and I wanted so much to impress them yesterday (Friday). I did my level best and I hope it was enough. I leave to the club to decide.
My training here, however, has made me a more confident and determined person. I want to play in Europe and I hope to do it soon. I believe that a footballer needs to play in Europe to progress.

YouTube Sensation Nazmi Faiz Mansor | Muhamad Asyraaf

Posted: 10 May 2012 11:32 PM PDT

It took just a YouTube clip for Nazmi Faiz Mansor to earn a chance of becoming the first Malaysian to play in the top-flight of a major European football league after attracting the interest of Portuguese Primeira Liga club Beira Mar.

Nazmi's breath-taking goal in an Olympic qualifier against Bahrain last November combined with his impressive display at the Sea Games and for Young Tigers A in the S-League was enough for Beira Mar to offer the youngster a one-year contract next season.

Nazmi leaves for the port city of Aveiro, where Beira Mar are based, on Sunday with his father Mansor Mustapha for a week-long trial and to finalise details of his contract.

The trial is only expected to be a formality with Nazmi, who can only sign professional terms under Fifa regulations when he turns 18 on Aug 16, is excited at the prospect of playing against top Portuguese clubs Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

"I'm really happy to get this opportunity as it is not easy for a Malaysian player to get a chance to go overseas," said Nazmi yesterday, with an ice-pack strapped to his left knee before training at Wisma FAM in Petaling Jaya.

"I've known about their interest for a month and I've been preparing myself to get used to the idea of living and playing in Europe.

"I know other Malaysians have returned home early from Europe but I don't want to end up like them. My first aim is to try to break into the first team and as the game there is a little different from here, I'll have to adapt as quickly as I can."

Several Malaysians have attempted their luck in Europe previously but none played for a top-flight team.

Lim Teong Kim turned out for Hertha Berlin in 1987 in the West German Oberliga (third division), former Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Perak midfielder S. Karthigesan had a short stint in 1997 with FC Basel, then in the Swiss second division, while Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli and Juzaili Samion played for French fourth division FCSR Haguenau in 2000.

Beira Mar flirted with relegation for several weeks this season but are now safe in 12th place with one game remaining and they could finish as high as ninth in the 16-team top-flight.

The club are little known outside Portugal but Portuguese great Eusebio made 12 appearances for them in 1976 at the tail-end of his career while former Czech Republic goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek is another internationally known player to have played for Beira Mar from 2004 to 2006.

National youth coach Ong Kim Swee revealed that a Singapore-based agent for Beira Mar approached him about the possibility of Nazmi playing in Portugal a month ago.

"I asked the agent how they came to know about Nazmi and he said they had seen clips of him on YouTube. They asked for CDs of Nazmi but before I could get it to them, they said they had seen enough of him and wanted to give him a trial.

"I suppose there is something about him they like and I think he should get the contract. He's a skillful, hardworking player with good vision and passing ability and based on his current performance, I think he does not have a problem of impressing them.

"I believe he has the talent to succeed and if he makes it there, it would open the door for other Malaysian players to be selected by European clubs," said Kim Swee, who added that Nazmi's fitness problems appear to be nearing an end.

"He played 90 minutes against Hougang United (on Apr 27) and though he struggled a little in the last 10 minutes, he looks to be improving his fitness. I left him out against Geylang last week because of a slight knee injury but that was just a precaution."

If all goes well, Nazmi will head to Budapest after his trial to link up with the Young Tigers' European tour in preparation for the AFC Under-22 Championship qualifiers in Myanmar in late June before returning to Beira Mar for pre-season training.

NAZMI FAIZ TO PLAY IN PORTUGAL

KUALA LUMPUR (10 May 2012) – Malaysian youngster Mohd Nazmi Faiz Mansor might head to Portugal to continue his football with First Division side SC Beira Mar.

It is believed that talks between Nazmi's representatives and SC Beira Mar is already at a late stage with Nazmi expected to be attached to the Portuguese side on 14-21 May 2012. And should he impress his selectors, then he will be offered a more permanent contract after he turns 18-year-old later this August.

Nazmi Faiz currently plays for Harimau Muda in Singapore's S-League.

"I will never stop Nazmi should he choose to play in Europe. As afterall, the whole idea behind having the Harimau Muda squad is to have our young players play abroad," added Ong Kim Swee, the chief coach of Harimau Muda.

PETALING JAYA: Wonderkid Nazmi Faiz Mansor is the next Malaysian footballer to try his luck in Europe after being offered a trial by Portuguese Division One side S.C. Beira-Mar.

The 18-year-old Nazmi won rave reviews for his performance with the national Under-23 squad in the Asian Zone Olympic final qualifying round. The midfielder also played a pivotal role in Malaysia retaining the football gold at the Indonesia SEA Games last year.

The pint-sized player has continued his fine form with the Harimau Muda in the Singapore League where he was noticed by international football agent Marco Guimaraes of FMI Sports, who offered him a trial with Beira-Mar in Aveiro from May 13-21.

However, the track record is against Malaysians trying their luck in Europe with only Lim Teong Kim making his mark in the Bundesliga with FC Hertha Berlin, then a Division Two side, for one season in 1987.

Perak striker Akmal Rizal Ahmad Rakhli also had a spell in France with Ligue 1 side Strasbourg in 1999-2000 and was loaned out to French Division 5 club FC SR Haguenau from 2000-2002 before returning to Malaysia in 2003.

Nazmi, aware of this dismal record, said he will strive to be a success story.

"It will be an eye opener for me and I mustn't miss this opportunity," said Nazmi, who will be accompanied by his father Mansor Mustapha for the one-week stint.

"It was my decision to attend the trial and I will give it my best to secure a contract.

"I'm still young so it will be easier for me to adapt to life in Portugal. I know that Beira-Mar are 12th in the Portuguese league and nothing else. It should be an interesting outing."

National Under-23 coach Ong Kim Swee believes Nazmi has a good chance of making an impression in Portugal.

"There's no restriction with work permits as in England so Nazmi has a good chance of landing a contract there," said Kim Swee.

"Portuguese football also suits Nazmi's physique and style of play. We wish him all the best."
